The DIA's second round collaboration with misq, an Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales and digital artist, will showcase a graphic brand identity and open interpretation of the DIA logo for the DIA - Awards program in 2023.

“I took inspiration from the years of archival work and branding interpretations by artists who collaborated with MTV in their advertisement campaigns and visual branding. The DIA's open brief allowed for an interpretation of the brand by the artist, to be influenced by the brand rather than creating branding. I did so by way of borrowed colours, shapes, forms and themes of making, crafting and construction. I took particular influence from the animation of MTV Chart Strugglers by the influential digital art practice Zeitguised.

“Enjoying the freedom within this collaboration and theme, I look forward to sharing all the final visual branding with you on the night of the awards later this year.”

The DIA has had a long-standing history of commissioning designers and artists to interpret its identity. Communication Design, one of the DIA membership disciplines, has been chosen to direct DIA communications through visuals since 1961. Latitude Group has designed the current DIA logo and in collaboration conceived the DIA - Awards concept. This year's awards commission with misq facilitates a new cross-disciplinary rendition and celebrates the award categories ‘Place, Use and Interact’.

misq is a digital artist from Sydney. Beginning in interior architecture which led to a love of 3D software and rendering. The alias 'misq' is short for miscellaneous. A design philosophy that incorporates anything and everything. “You know that folder that lives on your desktop ‘misc’ where you place files that have no defiant attribute but are too important to throw away, that’s misq. Difficult to define, but also important to keep.”
