Little Wonder

Gyungju Chyon is lecturer in Spatial Design at Monash University. John Sadar is associate professor of Architecture at Swinburne University. They are co-founders of Little Wonder, an interdisciplinary design studio which explores ecological and environmental issues by focusing on the relationships between designed things, environments, and living beings. They collaborate with companies internationally, and have exhibited in Germany, UK, Finland, Korea, USA, Canada and Australia.

Project: Round Rhizome Rings

Round Rhizome Rings explores circularity through an experimental process. Modular mycelium tiles are connected with brass and can be hung or fastened to a wall. Experiments with the rhizomic growth of mycelial hyphae, and a variety of connection methods led to the creation of tiles. Arising from variables in mycelium growing conditions including temperature, humidity, light and duration, the tiles exhibit a different colour and pattern, resulting from their unique temporality.
