About the Project

Located on a working cattle farm in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia, Upland Farm’s Cabins ‘Wren’ and ‘Forest’ were conceived as a space for mindful, meaningful, authentic activities that foster community and rural living. The design outcome responds to the seasons: Winter, a place to retreat and watch the weather pass through; Summer, a space that breathes and opens to the solstice climate; Year-round, a place to stargaze from the soaking tub or open fire. The architecture was to be timeless, sustainable, compact, deliberate, and intrinsic with the surroundings, offering an immersive and restorative experience – authentically rural.
